The Union Territory administration of Chandigarh has unveiled an ambitious development agenda for the upcoming fiscal year, allocating over ₹2.73 billion to various projects aimed at enhancing housing, education, and law enforcement infrastructure.
Government Housing Expansion
To address the increasing demand for government accommodations, the administration plans to construct more than 600 new housing units in Dhanas and Sectors 20, 43, and 46. These units will cater to both police personnel and other UT employees. A senior UT official noted that financials and development plans are currently being prepared, with construction set to commence following the necessary approvals, anticipated in the forthcoming financial year.
State-of-the-Art Police Training Centre
A significant portion of the budget, approximately ₹980 million, is earmarked for establishing a modern Police Training Centre in Sarangpur. Spanning 30 acres, the facility will feature separate hostels for male and female trainees, officers’ quarters, a stadium emphasizing physical fitness, a theatre, seminar hall, multipurpose indoor games hall, parade ground, and healthcare amenities.
Enhancements in Educational Infrastructure
The development plan also prioritizes educational infrastructure, with substantial investments aimed at upgrading and expanding facilities to improve the quality of education within the Union Territory.
